What SmartEdge™ Technology is
SmartEdge™ is a reinforced, load-distributing perimeter engineered into every applicable Evergreen cover. It integrates the fabric, edge binding, and anchoring interface into a single system so that stress is spread across the entire perimeter rather than concentrated at individual grommets.
The design goal is simple: the edge should be at least as durable as the field of the cover, and it should stay in consistent contact with the turf canopy through wind, ice, and repeated cycles of installation and removal.
Why edge construction matters
The perimeter of a turf cover does three jobs:
- It anchors the cover against wind.
- It maintains contact between the fabric and the turf so thermal performance is uniform.
- It absorbs the shear stress of every installation, removal, and folding cycle across the life of the cover.
Weak edges compromise all three. A cover that lifts along one edge cools that section of green faster, creates uneven green-up in spring, and eventually tears out of its anchors.
Anchoring and wind load
Wind load on a cover is not uniform. Gusts concentrate stress at corners and along windward edges. SmartEdge™ distributes that stress across a continuous reinforced perimeter, dramatically reducing peak load at any single anchor point.
Practically, that means fewer failed anchors, fewer field repairs, and covers that stay in place through the storms that tend to define whether a winter goes well.
Airflow, contact, and thermal uniformity
Consistent fabric-to-canopy contact is what makes a permeable cover work. When the edge lifts, cold air moves under the cover along that edge, creating a thermal gradient. The result: uneven green-up, a visible ring of cooler turf around the perimeter, and reduced overall performance.

Durability and warranty economics
Warranty length is a marketing number until the edge fails. A 12-year cover that lifts and tears at year four is a 4-year cover. SmartEdge™ is engineered so that the perimeter reaches the same service life as the fabric.
The economics follow. Cost per season on a green is warranty life multiplied by consistent performance, not simply the price on the invoice.
Custom fitting and installation
SmartEdge™ is finished around a cover cut to the exact shape of the green, tee, or field it will protect. Custom fitting is not a luxury — it is a prerequisite for the edge system to work as designed. A cover that is trimmed on-site or forced to fit an incorrect specification loses the anchoring and thermal uniformity that SmartEdge™ delivers.
